Mr R. A. Gower has been appointed a member of the Wellington Land Board. Messrs F. W. Mac Lean and J. Glover have been reappointed members of the Board of Health. The Bishop of Melanesia, the Rt. Rev. W. H. Baddeley, will arrive in the Dominion early in the New Year to attend the General Synod, after which he will return to the islands. Appointments to the Tobacco Board are announced in the Gazette issued last evening. Messrs E. M. Hunt and C. C. Nash have , been reappointed as representatives of the manufacturers, Mr J. F. Black has been reappointed as. a representative of the growers, and Mr F. A. Hamilton replaces G. W. Relat as a growers’ representative. Cabled advice was received yesterday by Mr J. M. Robertson. Mayor of Westport, of the death of Pilot Officer D. H. Robertson, R.A.F., aged 22. Pilot Officer Robertson left for England last year. He was'an old boy of Nelson College and the Westport Technical High School, and was prominent in sports and musical circles. The Rev. R. S. Watson, of Ashburton, co-convener of the Life and Work Committee of the Presbyterian Church, has received cabled advice that because of prevailing conditions the Rev. Professor John Baillie, Edinburgh, who was to represent the Church of Scotland at the Centenary Assembly, is unable to visit New Zealand.
