GREYHOUND RACING
GATHERING AT SOLWAY ON SATURDAY. KEEN CONTESTS ASSURED. On Saturday afternoon patrons of the thrilling sport of dog racing will have another' opportunity of seeing the speedy greyhounds at Solway Showgrounds. Excellent entries have been received, and this indicates the popularity of the Solway track, and the control of the sport by the Wairarapa Coursing Club. Dannevirke leashmen have nominated some first-class track performers both in the hurdle events and flat races. Considerable interest is being taken in the meeting of Flash Diamond and Puketoi Magic in the Open Hurdles. The former dog is the local champion, while the latter dog is a renowned hurdler from Dannevirke. This is the first meeting of this pair of good jumpers. The cup race has drawn a good field of quality dogs. Popular opinion favours Cardsharper. Mungi Taipo, Black Rufus 'and Flying Joe, with the possibility, of Desert Storm, this year’s winner of the classic Waterloo Cup. who divided the prize with Dainty Footsteps. He has plenty of speed, and it will be interesting to see if this dog can perform as well on a track.
A good programme is assured during the afternoon with two heats and a final in the Maiden Hurdles, and three heats in most of the flat races. The plant has been overhauled, and a good try-out was held last weekend, when everything was found to run smoothly.
