SPEECH DAY
ST MATTHEW’S SCHOOL PUPILS. Parents and friends of the St .Matthew’s School were given an opportunity yesterday afternoon of seeing the progress of the pupils in public speaking. One girl was chosen from each class to make a speech, she was introduced by a second girl from the same class, while a third proposed a vote of thanks. The youngest speaker who opened the proceedings was nine years old, and gave her introduction with all the aplomb of an experienced speaker. The following were the speakers and their subjects:—Standard 2. F. Barrington. Melik. An Eskimo Boy: Standard 3. M. Bird. The N.Z. Bush; Standard 4. 11. Wilson. The Long Bow; Standard 5. Pi. Wilson, The Taj Mahal; Standard 6. P. Young. St Peter's; Form 3. 11. Mulvaney. Paderewski: L. Pilmer. Sir Samuel Hoare; Form 4. J. Potter, Gandhi: Form sb, V. Jackson; Thomas Edison: Form sa, B. Knubley. Lord Melbourne: Form G, J. Wylie, Roald Amunsden. and J. Mulvaney, Hans Anderson.
