NEUTRAL PEACE APPEAL I DUTCH & BELGIAN NOTES TO BELLIGERENTS. FOLLOWING ON CONFERENCE OF ROYALTIES. The following Daventry reports have ■ been rebroadca.st by the New Zealand ! National stations:— i Queen Wilhemina of Holland and I King Leopold of Belgium have issued |an appeal for peace and have sent notes to the belligerents. They have offered their good offices in a fresh attempt to reach an agreement. King Leopold visited The Hague for an unexpected conference with Queen Wilhemina and the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the Netherlands.
NORTH SEA ACTION. Some British light naval forces and two Polish destroyers were in action against German aeroplanes in the North. Sea. No damage was done to the ships. The enemy casualties are not known. FORTIFICATIONS IN POLAND. Reports from the Polish-Rumanian frontier state that Germany and Russia are both heavily fortifying their common new frontier in Poland and that the work is being speeded up. Conditions in the Soviet-occupied area are stated to be still unsettled, otte of the major difficulties being the increases in prices due to the breakdown in communications. THE RUSSIAN NAVY. The creation of a navy worthy of the power of the Soviet Union was announced in a statement from Moscow yesterday. Numerous new ships are to be constructed, and confidence is expressed that "the navy will master the technique required." A mixed committee of the Turkish Assembly has approved the treaty with Britain and France. It is reported that the Oslo Powers, meeting in conference. discussed a common policy in dealing with belligerent and foreign ships entering their ports. The German prize crow of the City of Flint is being interned in a fortress near the Swedish border.
