Large quantities of sodium chlorate have been sold to farmers by the Ashburton County Council in the last three years for the control of noxious weeds. The council has been purchasing bulk supplies since November. 1936. and sales to date amount to about 40 tons. Sales total about 10 or 12 tons a year. and. although the council has about a year's supply on hand, it decided 'to order another 10 tons immediately, as it anticipates some difficulty in the execution of older 1 : because of the war
