“YOU CAN'T CHEAT AN HONEST MAN.” Hilarious comedy sequences deftly woven into a powerful story stamp Universal's “You Can't Cheat an Honest Man. ’ as one of the year’s best screen offerings. Heading the cast of the picture, which will be shown tonight at the Regent Theatre, are W. C. Fields, Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. They are rated as Hollywood’s top comedy combination —-and they certainly live up to their reputation! Highlighting the film is the bitter feud between Fields and his wooden nemesis, McCarthy. Their battle reaches new heights of potency and comedy in “You Can’t Cheat An Honest Man.” Charlie pops up with a black eye, instigated by Fields, and has to do one of his acts in blackface so the discoloured erb won’t be noticed. The attractive Constance Moore, playing her first major role, gives a brilliant performance. Mortimer Snerd is back again too. A brand new face seen on the screen for the first time is that of Princess Baba. Another newcomer is Blacaman, Hindu animal hypnotist, who performs some amazing feats with lions and crocodiles. Mary Forbes and Thurston Hall are perfectly cast as James Bush’s parents. John Arledfje gives an excellent account of himself as Fields’s son. Charles Coleman will be seen in one of his never-to-be-for-gotten butler roles. Edward Brophy. Arthur Hohl and Eddie Anderson arc splendid as a union,representative, bill collector and Fielc’s’s coloured helper respectively. Excellent supporting features further entrance the programme.
