GAMING CHARGES
POLICE RAID AT KURIPUNI. TWO BUSINESS MEN BEFORE COURT. As the result of a visit paid by the Masterton police yesterday afternoon to premises at Kuripuni the occupiers appeared later before a special sitting of the Magistrate’s Court to answer charges under the Gaming Act. Patrick Francis Ryan, butcher. 47, was charged that, on November 6, being the occupier of certain premises known as the Kuripuni Butchery, he did use same as a common gaming house. A similar charge was preferred against George Robert Deane, grocer, 45, in respect to his grocer’s shop at Kuripuni. Both defendants were remanded by Mr A. D. Low, J.P., until November 16, bail being allowed in each case for £lOO.
Ryan was arrested by Constables Reardon and Downes and Deane by Detective-Sergeant Kane and Constable Diggle.
