MISERY IN WARSAW
SIXTY THOUSAND INJURED STILL IN CITY SERIOUS SHORTAGE OF DOCTORS THOUSANDS OF BODIES UNDER RUINS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright LONDON, November 4. The Berlin correspondent of the Copenhagen “Berlingske Tidende” and the Warsaw correspondent of the “Osservatore Romano” confirm that conditions of indescribable misery continue to prevail in Warsaw. Seventy five per cent of the buildings were razed by bombs, which sometimes passed through six or seven stories and exploded like a volcano. Sixty thousand injured are still in the city and there is a serious shortage of doctors. Thousands of bodies are under the ruins, gravely menacing health. German experts say it might be years before it will be possible accurately to estimate Poland’s losses. Germany took 710,000 prisoners and Russia 130,000. It is believed that 60,000 fled to Rumania, Lithuania and Latvia. A million are not accounted for.
