TRUE SCOUT

LATE SQUADRON-LEADER LAMB. MEMORIAL SERVICE YESTERDAY AT ST. MATTHEW’S. A large congregation joined in a memorable memorial service held in St. Matthew’s Church last night for the late Squadron-Leader Lennox Lamb. The lessons were read by present officers of his old scout troop. S.M. Ron Isles and A.S.M. Keith Jaine read the specially selected passages very impressively. The choir rendered with feeling the appropriate anthem, “The Radiant Morn.” In his address, the Rev. E. J. Rich spoke of the spirit which inspired the best of humanity to be ready for service and sacrifice for the good of others. Lennox Lamb was a son of Masterton. Here he had his early training. Here the ideal of duty which had come to him from his forefathers and his God had been renewed by the spirit of scouting. Extracts from letters written by early scouters revealed what a fine scout he had been —always keen, always ready to bring cheer and happiness to others. He was a true scout to the end, spurning the way of selfishness and seeking the path of duty. They had heard great things of the R.A.F. in the last few weeks. Lennox Lamb had been a leader among men of whom the King had said: “I am proud to have met such men.” It was good to know that a few weeks ago he had been received by the King and congratulated and thanked for his great services. The memory of his life would ever be an inspiration to St. Matthew’s Scouts. Not by length of days alone, but by character and service, could life be measured.
