WELLINGTON COMPETITION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Brighter scoring marked the completion of the second series of senior championship matches under control of the Wellington Cricket Association on Saturday afternoon. A cool southerly wind made conditions cheerless for spectators, but wickets were firm and outfields fast. Kilbirnie recorded the second outright win. of the season by beating Karori by eight wickets on the Kilbirliie Recreation Ground. In reply to Kilbirnic's 257. Karori could only respond with 132 on Saturday. Following on, Karori could only total 153. and Kirbirnie won by eight wickets. The feature of the match between Wellington College Old Boys and Institute at the Basin Reserve was the stand made by V. H. Du Chateau and G. Rainbird for Old Boys, which put on 251 runs for the fourth wicket. Both were unbeaten when stumps were drawn, Du Chateau having scored 170 and Rainbird 113. The total was 399 for three wickets, Old Boys winning by 163 runs on the first innings. Midland beat Wellington on the Basin Reserve by 152 runs on the first innings. In reply to Wellington's first innings total of 152, Midland ran up 304 for seven wickets, and applied the closure. R. Crawford gave a resolute display for 127 not out, and, with J. Fortune, put on 101 for the eighth wicket. Wellington shaped much better in their second innings, which realised 278 for five wickets. Kerr, Wiren, Airey and Meech all passed the halfcentury. Meech, who scored 47 not out in the first innings, was again unbeaten with 57 to his credit, and thus scored 104 runs in the match without losing his wicket. ’ Good bowling by I. Manley, who took five wickets for 47 runs, saw Hutt collapse against University for 101 runs on the Hutt Recreation Ground. Following on, Hutt did much better in their second knock, 201 runs being on for the loss of three wickets, R. Gwilliatn played a bright unbeaten innings for an even century, and E. McLeod
reached 47. University won by 195 runs on the first innings.
IN OTHER CENTRES. Dimedin: On Saturday Carisbrook A reached 411 for six wickets against Carisbrook B (Moloney 145, Fraser 83). Kaikorai 411, McGregor hitting freely for 191 and Holden adding 80, met Dunedin. who scored 11 for no wickets. The third century of the day was by Uttley for University against Albion. He scored 112 and Toomey 67 in a total of 286. Albion scored 19 without loss. Old Boys scored 158 against Grange, 109 for one wicket (Chettleburgh 43 not out).
Christchurch: The second round of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions concluded on Saturday in fine weather. Lancaster Park, 144 and 93 for five wickets, beat Sydenham. 123 and 77. Old Boys, 291 and 75 for three wickets beat East Christchurch, 236 (Davis 55), by 55 runs on the first innings. Old Collegians, 181 and 125 for four wickets, beat West Christchurch, 171, by 10 runs on the first innings. St. Albans, 152 and 128 for five wickets, declared, beat’Riccarton. 96 and 64 for two wickets, by 56 runs on the first innings.
