CYCLING

WAIRARAPA CLUB. POINTS GAINED BY RIDERS. The Wairarapa Amateur Cycling Club concluded a successful road season a short time ago. During the season riders attended several outside events with varied success. Riders proved their riding ability in the Masterton “40” held on July 8 when they filled four places out of the first seven riders home. The day made riding conditions very trying, the weather being wet and bitterly cold.

The following is the position of riders with regard to points gained in club races throughout the season: —

Handicap section: M. Graham 11. G. Goodin 10. R. Copp 6, K. Woollett 6, E. Lefort 4. B. Dooling 4, A. Morris 3. Fastest time section: R. Copp 17, K. Woollett 15, G. Goodin 8, M. Graham 3, A. Morris 1. E. Lefort 1. M. Graham also won the junior points prize. On the track: Last Wednesday evening saw the first competitive racing on the Park Oval. Two distances were decided, 4 mile and 1 mile, the times recorded were very good for the first meeting. Results: —Half-mile: G. Goodin (20yds) 1. K. Woollett (scr) 2. M. Graham (55yds) 3. K. Gilbert (80yds) 4. Time, 1.25. One mile: K. Woollett (scr) 1. G. Goodin (25yds) 2. Time, 2.40.

G. Goodin, new to track racing, put up a fine performance and with more experience should be hard to beat.

K. Woollett showed fairly good form in winning the mile, this distance apparently suiting him better than the half mile.

M. Graham found the going just a bit hard but will improve with more training.

K. Gilbert, another new-comer to the track, found his "86" too hard, and would be advised to change down a bit until he is fitter. Other riders desirous of taking up this sport are requested to attend the Wednesday evening rides which start at 6 o’clock sharp.
