WOMEN’S WELFARE LEAGUE
MONTHLY MEETING OF MEMBERS. MASTERTON HOSPITAL VISITS. The monthly meeting of the Women's National Welfare League was held in the Midland Hotel yesterday afternoon. Those present were: Miss Kummer (in the chair), Mesdames A. W. McKenzie, Andrew. Tolhurst, Charleson. Munn. Hunter. Whyborn, F. Reynolds. Watson. Coradinc, Coleman, Glen and Misses Beiliss and Cameron. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames J. Caselberg. Drummond, Fletcher, W. McKenzie, Pither, Harrison, Jordan, Kilgour, Misses Boddington. Vallance, M. Cameron and Guild. Mrs McKenzie reported on two visits paid to the Masterton Hospital during the last month when cake, fruit and reading matter were distributed. The visitors were afterwards entertained at afternoon tea by the Matron. Mesdames McKenzie, Hunter, Drummond and Tolhurst will make two visits to the hospital during November. It was suggested by Mrs Munn that the Christmas visit to Buchanan Home take place on December 14. In the absence of Mrs Pither, who has been ill. Miss Kummer reported on the success and the excellence of the concerts given by the Blind Institute Band. Mrs McKenzie reported of several necessitous cases visited. Miss Kummer spoke of the bereavement Mr and Mrs Lamb had suffered in the loss of their son, Squadron-Lead-er Lennox Lamb, and the meeting stood in silence for a moment as a mark of respect to the memory of deceased.
An appeal was made for more gifts of warm clothing to be sent to Polish refugee children. Parcels may be left with Miss Kummer, 85 Cole Street, Masterton.
