COULMORE ESCAPES
ATTACKING SUBMARINE ELUDED:. SEQUEL TO WIRELESS CALL FOR HELP. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, November 2. A message has been received that the British freighter Coulmore, which wirelessed that she had sighted a submarine, and called for help, eluded her attacker. The position of the ship at the time of signalling was 100 miles inside the neutrality zone agreed upon at the Pan-American conference. AMERICAN REPORTS. VESSEL WITHIN NEUTRALITY. BELT. i Received This Dav, 9.20 a.m.) WASHINGTON, November 2. A Camperdown radio message informed the Coastguard cutter Bibb that the Coulmore was safe. Despite the report of safety, considerable scepticism was felt regarding the validity of the radio message as it was doubted whether the Coulmore had been in direct communication. The Coastguard is continuing the search. Later the Associated Press of America stated that the Coulmore herself had reported her safety and the search therefore was suspended. The vessel gave her position as just within the neutrality belt.

A later Association Press of America message slated that the Coastguard, receiving apparently confirmatory information 1 of the vessel's safety, cancelled further search. ANOTHER ESCAPE BRITISH SHIP FIRED ON EAST OF MADIERA. (Received This Day. 9.20 a.m.) GIBRALTAR, November 2. It is officially stated that the British steamer Egba escaped from a submarine 240 miles east of Madiera. The U-boat opened lire but the Egba was not hit.
