MAKING A BETTER PEACE. Asked to discuss the conditions of a better peace. Dr Walter W. Van Kirk, international jurist and director of the American National Peace Conference, called upon responsible world statesmen to declare that it was their purpose after the present war to establish a genuine world community. not a League of Victors to enslave the vanquished. "Unless the terms of peace are clearly outlined in advance of widespread hostilities." he said, "the war will be followed in all likelihood by another Versailles Treaty. This would be a catastrophe even greater than the war itself. There must not again be a peace of vindictiveness. Let his fact be proclaimed now before it too late.
