U-BOAT LOSSES
GERMANS DENY ALLIED FIGURES SAY ONLY THREE SUBMARINES ARE OVERDUE. CASUALTIES ON WESTERN FRONT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day. 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, October 31. A report from Berlin states that the official news agency denies Allied statements that one-third of the Üboats have been sunk or damaged. The agency adds that the losses are confined to three U-boats known to be overdue. The Supreme Command states that lhe total losses due to enemy activity on the West front from September 3 to October 17. since when they have not been materially altered, were 196 dead. 356 wounded and 144 missing. Eleven aeroplanes were lost.
i BODIES WASHED UP FROM U-BOAT SUNK BY FRENCH. (Received This Dav. 12.50 p.m.) PARIS. October 31. The bodies of a naval officer and seaman were washed up near Calais, presumably from a U-boat the Franch sank on October 26. SEAMEN MISSING FROM BRITISH VESSELS TORPEDOED. (Received This Day. 10.45 a.m.) LONDON. October 31. Three members of the crew of the British cargo steamer Cairnmona are missing. Forty-one others were landed in lifeboats following on an explosion without warning. Five of the Juno's crew are missing. One survivor died
