MOLOTOV ADDRESSES SOVIET COUNCIL

Wild Charges Made Against Allies

WAR ON BEHALF OF POLAND CALLED SENSELESS

AIM OF OVERTHROWING HITLERISM RIDICULED

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright.)

(Received This Dav, 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, October 31

The Russian Foreign Alim's!er, Al. V. Al. Alolotov, began speaking at 7.45 pan. (Moscow time) before a joint session ol both Chambers of the Supreme Soviet Council, in the St Andrew’s Hall of the Kremlin, says a report received from the Aloseow correspondent of the British United Press Association. The session voted on an agenda comprising reports on foreign policy and the reports ol West Ukrainian and AVestei n A\ hitc Russian delegates. Denouncing Britain, as the aggressor, Al. Alolotov declared that Germany was striving for peace. “A continuation of the war for the/restoration of Poland is senseless,” he said. Discussing the changes in Russo-German relations due to the partition of Poland. Al. Alolotov declared that the Polish rulers boasted of their might, but that the Russian and German armies swiftly shattered them. “Poland —this monstrous product of the Versailles Treaty—was crushed and Britain and France brought no help,” he declared. “AVe are not aware what guarantee they gave Poland. This Avar will make fundamental changes in Europe and the whole world. The traditional policy of unprincipled Russian and German manoeuvring, playing off one against the other, has suffered complete bankruptcy and we now have friendly relations between us. as reflected in the Aloseow Treaty of September. This radical change will affect the entire international situation. Britain and France, although aware that a continuance ol the war .tor Poland is absurd, do ,not desire it to be stopped. They seek new excuses to prolong the war with Germany. British and French ruling circles attempt to appear as the champions 01. the rights of democracy and anti-Hitlerism. Britain announces that its war aim is the destruction of Germany. Germany is now striving for peace, but Britain, which until yesterday was anti-aggression, is now for war. It is not only senseless but criminal to wage such a war for the destruction of Hitlerism, camouflaged as a fight for democracy. Fear of Germany’s claims to British and French colonies is at the bottom of the war. The war between Germany and the Anglo-French bloc is only in its first stage. It is not yet really developed and the changes which it would cause would make old formulas inapplicable. This must be remembered in judging the new European situation.
