MANAWATU SHOW

PREMIER SPRING FIXTURE. The Centennial Spring Show of the Manawatu A. and P. Association on Thursday, Friday and Saturday promises to be one worthy of the occasion and with the very high entries and special attractions record attendances are assured. The association has shown judgment in securing the St. Moritz Skaters,, who are to give a wonderful ice show at the Centennial Exhibition, for performances on two evenings and the world’s car crash kings, who are to give a thrilling demonstration on Saturday afternoon and evening. Throughout the show there is ample evidence that the association is making a special effort in recognition of the Centennial year. As usual there is prominence given to the horses, cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, home industries, etc. From all standpoints these compare ■ more than favourably with similar displays anywhere in the North Island. One of the instructive yet novel demonstrations will be the working of five sheep dogs at once by Mr Fortune, of Timaru. This feat was accomplished by Mr Fortune at the recent Carterton Show and attracted a great deal of interest. This display should be worth going a long way to see.

The St. Moritz skaters are a really marvellous show and they will give their displays in the Entertainment Hall on Thursday and Friday evenings,, having to come up from the Centennial Exhibition, where they are practicing, for each performance. Four in number, they execute the most intricate movements with the utmost grace and win applause by their wonderful precision.

The world's car crash kings, under Jack Watt, are in every respect entitled to be hailed as the successors of the ■Hell Drivers” who proved such a great draw at a previous show. Headon crashes at full speed, crashes into shop windows, and many other things which only a crazy driver would do are part of their normal routine. With their special fleet of cars they will give more thrills to the minute than the average person experiences in a life time of driving. This is not all of the show for there are to be cycle races, the Young Farmers’ sheep shearing contest, which was an. outstanding event at the last spring show, motorcycle chariot races, a firm favourite with the public, and a very fine exhibition of gymnastics by the Palmerston North Y.M.C.A.

The stock show will finish on Friday and Saturday is to be Carnival Day. Every interest is catered for on a liberal scale during the show and all those who live in the Manawatu and adjacent districts are strongly advised io attend.
