OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
TRADE UNION FEES (To the Editor.) Sir,—lt is very hard to follow your correspondent "Fair Play" in his letter of the 24th. First he asks for some governing body to fix the union fees for the workers; then he asks the workers to demand their own administration. "Fair Play" seems to have a knowledge of union matters and must know that the fees payable are fixed by union members themselves by popular vote at properly conducted meetings, or by postal vote as in the case of the union "Fair Play" quoted. If members, when given an opportunity to use their vote, fail to do so. irV my opinion they should be prepared to abide by the result. I would suggest to "Fair Play" that he attend the meeting of the General Labourers’ Union tonight and air his views to those concerned instead of rushing into print with’one side of the question. If this course is followed I am sure he will obtain all the information he requires I am, etc. "PLAYING FAIR." Masterton, October 31.
