HITLER’S CHALLENGE

TAKEN UP BY BRITISH LABOUR ASSERTIONS TO CONTRARY RESENTED. DECLARATION ON BEHALF OF PARTY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received This Day, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, October 27. Mr Arthur Greenwood (Deputy Labour Leader), in a statement on behalf of the party, with the authority of the Leader (Mr C. R. Attlee) says intense resentment has been created in British labour circles over propaganda in neutral countries alleging that British workers are unwilling to fight and are anxious for peace. The workers in Britain are firmly and unalterably determined to end for ever the system of organised gangsterism which has kept Europe in turmoil for years. British labour has accepted the challenge thrown down by Hitler, and although outside the Government, it is using every endeavoui - to strengthen its intention finally to crush Hitlerism. It is supported in this by the Labour movements in the Dominions. RECEIVED BY THE KING (Received This Day, 10.13 a.m.) RUGBY. October 27. The King gave an audience to Mr Greenwood. It is understood that the audience is in pursuance of his Majesty’s desire to maintain contact with the leaders of the Opposition. Earlier in the week the King received Mr Attlee.
