The Legislative Assembly, by 153 votes to 22, passed a resolution disapproving of the Viceroy’s declaration, with a Congress amendment expressing confidence in the Ministry and approval of its intention to resign as a protest against the declaration. Members of the Muslim League walked out of the Assembly when the Speaker ruled out the league amendment.
