BRITAIN’S WAR AIM
STATED BY LORD HALIFAX FIGHTING IN ORDER TO SAVE CIVILISATION. ESTABLISHMENT OF SECURITY. * (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 25. Addressing Conservative private members of the House of Commons this evening, the Foreign Secretary. Lord Halifax, described the diplomatic situation as he saw it- after the first few weeks of the war, commenting in particular upon the changed situation compared with that prevailing a few months ago. ’ He stressed the importance of the recent Turkish treaty as a stabilising influence upon the position. “Meanwhile, the British strength must be reinforced at all points vital to , the strategic interests of this country, ho said. “When the time comes for making an honourable peace every effort should bo made to create an order in which the security which is lacking now can be established. "Britain is not fighting for any imperialistic gain but in order to save civilisation, which is threatened in many ways.”
