IF GERMANY WON
AMERICAN FREEDOM WOULD END. ADDRESS BY LORD LOTHIAN. 3y Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, October 26. The British Ambassador, Lord Lothian, in an address today said that the effect of the United States’ freedom would disappear if Germany won the war. “At the end of the Great War there was more political freedom and democracy in the world than before,” he said. “Today it is precisely the future of this freedom which is at stake. The real issue of the war is whether there will be a power behind the kind of world in which England and France and the democracies of Scandinavia believe, or a more relentless power behind a world in which National Socialism and Communism believe.” He accepted for Britain some of the blame for the war, which he said, “is of course the outcome of past mistakes, but all wars are.”
