CARTERTON
DRY CONDITIONS RAIN BADLY NEEDED ON FARMS. ("Times-Age” Special.) With the exception of the farms on the western side of the Wairarapa under the Tararua ranges rain is very badly needed in the Carterton district. In fact in many parts of the district, cows have been turned into paddocks which had been closed for early cuts of hay, in order to keep the cows up to usual supply of milk. The result is that dairy factories are not receiving the amount of milk which they should at this time of the year and, of course, the output is suffering. Personal Items. Mrs Graham, of Marton, is staying with her mother and father, Mr and Mrs E. H. Hawker, Pembroke Street, Carterton. / Mr and Mrs J. P. Prebensen, of Shannon, are visiting Carterton for the Show. Mr. Rex Lawrence, of the Carterton branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of his transfer to Rotorua and will leave to take up his new duties on Tuesday next. His place in the Bank will be taken byb Mr V. W, J. Inder, of the Auckland office. ’ Brigadier-General Sir H. E. Hart, \ who has been stationed in Egypt for the past two years, and who is return? . ing to New Zealand on furlough, accompanied by Lady Hart, is expected to arrive in New Zealand early next month. i Alleged Assault and Theft. A man named F. J. Baker was last night arrested by Constables Robertson and Gregor on the showgrounds on a charge of alleged assault and theft. He appeared before Justices of the Peace at the S.M. Court this morning and was remanded. It is alleged that the trouble arose as the. result of an argument at one of the sideshows.
