TO COMSTAR
MAE WEST AND W. C. FIELDS. Mae West and W. C. Fields, two of the outstanding personalities in the entertainment world, will be co-starred by Universal in a motion picture spectacle of frontier days. Final arrangements to team the curvacious West and the Micawber Fields were made personally by Nate Blumberg, president of Universal, who is spending the summer months at production headquarters at Universal City. Miss West, under terms of the deal, will star individually for Universal in two additional pictures to be inade later. The Fields-West production will be one of the most costly in the history of the Universal organisation. Authentic early Western backgrounds will provide many of the settings, and a supporting cast of all-star proportions is being assembled. Grover Jones, one of Hollywood’s ace scenarists, is fashioning a screen-play, and Eddie Cline will direct. Actual production was to start about September 1. Lester Cowan will produce. Fields’ last film venture was for Universal in "You Can’t Cheat An Honest Man,” with Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. Miss West starred last in the Paramount picture, “Every Day’s A
