When his attention was called in the House of Commons to the intensified campaign for the promotion of German trade with Holland and the Scandinavian countries, Mr Oliver Stanley (President of the Board of Trade) replied: “I have received reports of the nature indicated. The Government is fully alive to the importance of promoting United Kingdom trade to the countries mentioned and other oversea markets. With that object, my Department is opening discussions with the representatives of exporting industries with a view to facilitating their operations. I am in constant touch with the appropriate Departments on matters affecting export trade.”
