WOMAN KILLED

MOTOR COLLISION NEAR WANGANUI. VICTIM THROWN OUT OF CAR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WANGANUI, October 22. Fatal injuries were received by the supervisor of the Wanganui telephone exchange when the car in which she was travelling from Wanganui to Palmerston North on Saturday night was involved in an accident five miles and a half south of Wanganui. She was Miss Elizabeth Eagle, aged 47. Miss Eagle finished duty at 8 o’clock and joined her brother, Mr John Eagle, assistant supervisor of the Post and Telegraph Department clerical branch, Palmerston North, who had come to Wanganui to take her to Palmerston North for the weekend. When opposite the Marangi homestead on the main highway a Wanganui car returning from the Trentham races struck the car driven by Mr Eagle a glancing blow. It travelled some distance before striking a bank and slewing round. Miss Eagle was thrown heavily on to the roadway and received severe head injuries, death being instantaneous. Mr Eagle was uninjured, but suffered from shock. All the occupants of the other car were uninjured. Miss Eagle was born in St Bathan's, Otago, and came to Wanganui four years ago. She had served in many telephone exchanges in New Zealand and was a popular and efficient officer. An inquest for identification purposes was opened today and adjourned.
