Time, 1.14. £ FINE PERFORMANCE RIVETTE IN THE CAULFIELD CUP. PROSPECTS IN MELBOURNE EVENT. (Received This Day, .12.55 p.m.) SYDNEY,' This Day. ’ The “Sydney Morning Herald’s” Melbourne correspondent states that Rivette won the Caulfield Cup so well as to indicate that she has excellent prospects of winning the Melbourne Cup, in which she is handicapped at 6st. 131 b. On Saturday she carried 7st. 21b. and even with the ten pounds penalty which she has been given she will carry only seven pounds more than the weight with which she administered a trouncing to the Caulfield Cup field. There were one or two hard luck stories after the Caulfield Cup. but. nothing occurred that could detract from Rivette’s performance. The “Telegraph’s” Melbourne correspondent states that the unluckiest horse of the Caulfield Cup was Respirator. He dropped back to the last and was there five furlongs from the post.
