NAVAL ENTRANTS
NEW EDUCATIONAL TEST. The Admiralty has produced a scheme to put an end to the naval “crammer” school, says the ‘‘Manchester Guardian.” After next spring the educational test for boys of 13| entering for the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth will be the same as that for all public schools. This will mean that any boy entered for the Navy who fails to get a nomination will still have gone ‘through the common examination for public schools. He will not lose a term and will not necessarily have to sit for a fresh examination. Worked papers of those who have not been accepted for the Navy may be sent to the headmaster of a public school named as an alternative by the parent or guardian. In the past certain subjects have been rather stressed in the naval examination so that special classes or special tuition has been arranged for naval candidates. Henceforth a general standard of knowledge will be accepted. It is a further step by the Admiralty towards the ultimate abolition of the Royal Naval College as the proper entry-port for commissioned officers.
