A rare fish caught by Mr W. Pool. Akaroa, outside Akaroa Heads in a crayfish pot, was recently forwarded to the Christchurch Museum. The taxidermist, Mr' P. J. O’Brien, states that this fish is exceeding rare and has been found in New Zealand waters only a few times. Its scientific name is Coxichthys variegatus richardson. It has no English name that is known. The position of the ventral fins is interesting, as they are extremely far forward. Mr O’Brien has made a colour sketch of the fish.
