An earthquake in the city and environs stopped clocks at G. 54 a.m. Many persons were frightened and ran into the streets. No one was injured. and the damage is negligible. Minor tremors were felt at Montreal and in the North-eastern and Midwestern United States. At Boston, the Harvard seismologist reported tremors of major intensity. WIDESPREAD TREMORS CENTRE IN WESTERN ATLANTIC. (Received This Day, 9.15 a.m.) NEW YORK. October 19. Earth tremors, described as a "major’’ earthquake, centring in the western Atlantic, were felt along the entire north and eastern seaboard as far west as Ohio. Dishes rattled, pictures became crooked, automobiles swerved, and some houses rocked to their foundations. but the damage is not important, _______
