HELP FOR CHINA
SOVIET MILITARY MISSION IN CHUNGKING RUMOURS OF IMPENDING ALLIANCE. CONSTERNATION IN JAPANESE CIRCLES. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. NEW YORK, October 19. A dispatch from the correspondent of the “New York Times'’ in Shanghai states advices received by usually reliable foreign circles in Chungking report that a large Soviet military mission has arrived in Chungking from Moscow, travelling in five aeroplanes. 'Pile mission consists of many experts and advisers on aerial, lank, artillery and infantry matters. The report of its arrival has caused consternation in Japanese circles in Shanghai. The Shanghai correspondent of the United Press of America says rumours are circulating in connection with the Russian delegation in Chungking that China and Russia may shortly sign a military alliance. These Chinese are reported to have said that the Russians will be styled advisers to China at present. but actually they are discussing with General Chiang Kai-shek farreaching agreements. A nationalist representative here says that England and France have refused further aid to China because of the war and the United States has not offered effective assistance: thus China has had no choice but to turn to Russia.
It is also reported that Russia has sent large bodies of troops into Sinkiang (Chinese Turkestan).
