GARDEN COMPETITION
ENTRIES VERY DISAPPOINTING. PRESIDENT DEPLORES PUBLIC’S APATHY. ‘•The entries so far received for this year’s garden competition are most disappointing,” said Mr H. L. Esau, president of the Masterton Horticultural Society this morning. "Only nine have been received in one class and three in the other. If the public is not willing to support this competition the society will have no other option but to discontinue it, as in promoting it it has gone to considerable expense in several ways, not to mention the large amount of work involved. Good prizes are offered for the competition and it is hard to understand the apathy of the public. It is obvious from the number of entries that have come to hand that the public does not appreciate the society’s efforts in this direction. It has been decided meantime to extend the date Upon which entries will close until next Wednesday but if better support is not forthcoming the competition will be discontinued.”
