The Glen Hurdle Handicap resulted in an easy win for Peter Beckford. Clarion Call’s jumping was first class, but he lacked dash. Esperance Bay was with the leaders all the way but weakened at the vital moment. Aussie Ra started favourite. For a mile he was prominent but then faded. Donegal and Peter Beckford both pulled up lame. TAITA HANDICAP. Flying Spy moved up as they crossed on to the course proper, and was ‘in front with Cetawayo. Wild Fox, Black Robe and Khurja. At the distance Cetawayo came right away to win by three lengths from Black Robe, with Flying Spy six lengths further back third. Reb - el Lad, Arctic King, and Gold Ballad were slow away. As the field settled down Old Surrey and Lord Moutoa made the running from Old Bill, Play On, Beaupartir, Haughty Winner, Corroboree, Boomerang, Winning Rival and The Bigot. The order was the same round the top. Into the straight Old Surrey still had charge from Lord Moutoa and Winning Rival on terms with Beaupartir next, followed by Mishna making a forward move. Old Bill made his effort from the distance, and went on to win well by two lengths from Mishna. Old Surrey was a length and a half away third. RIMUTAKA HANDICAP. Minority was. left at the start. Peerless on the inside. Then came Yours Truly and Tooley the last-named coming fast from a long way back. Lady Burst ran on and beat Tooley Street by two lengths, with Centrepoise a head away, and Yours Truly fourth. WELLESLEY STAKES. Absolve refused to go off in line. Gothic, and Red Chief. Indian Sun pulled to the front out of the back, while Raeburn, who had made a good run down the back, was with the leaders outside Verey Lights, then camo Colonel Bogey, and Gothic. Indian Sun weakened at the turn into the straight, and Verey Lights and Raeburn were just ahead of him at the distance. Classform came with a great rattle to head the field 50 yards from the post, but Raeburn came again when Classform appeared to have the race won and took the decision by half a head.
