NOTHING TO ADD
BRITISH PRIME MINISTER ON PEACE ISSUES OPINION IN NEUTRAL COUNTRIES MANIFESTLY FAVOURABLE TO ALLIES. FAILURE OF ENEMY PROPAGANDA. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) LONDON, October 18. In the House of Commons, Mr Chamberlain srfifl: “There is nothing I can at present add 1o my statement last week upon the attitude of the British Government to Herr Hitler’s speech on October G. .Apart from comment in Gorman newspapers, there is no indication of Gorman Government views upon I lie issues I sought io define. “Meanwhile opinion in other countries has had an opportunity of finding expression and the German propaganda organs have used all possible ingenuity to twist foreign comment and make it less unfavourable from the German viewpoint. I should doubt whether this effort has had any effect outside Germany itself, for it is difficult to conceal the fact that the vast bulk of comment of nearly all shades of political colour in neutral countries has shown a full appreciation of the attitude of the Allied Governments.” It was evident, the Prime Minister added, that the inconveniences the war had inevitably brought to non-belliger-ents, and which Britain would do her utmost to mitigate, had not obscured the fundamental issues at stake, the determination of which must be for the good of all and affect the moral and material welfare of neutrals no less than belligerents. In announcing that the British Expeditionary Force had now finally taken over an allotted sector of the French line and that all divisions were in position, Mr Chamberlain said: “We are proud to know that our men are thus standing in arms beside the soldiers of France, for whose patriotism, determination and magnificent qualities we have such a deep admiration.”
