LEATRICE JOY
MAKES A COMEBACK. Who remembers the dazzlingly beautiful Beatrice Joy, one of the top stars of the silent screen? Well, she’s making a comeback, and has one of the leading roles in Deanna Durbin's next picture, “First Love.” Leatrice Joy starred in the “Ten Commandments” and in “Manslaughter,” two outstanding silent pictures, as well as a host of others. She retired at the height of her careei' in 1929 to marry a wealthy business man. Before that she was married to the late John Gilbert, great lover of the silent screen. Miss Joy has a 14-year-old daughter, Leatrice Joy Gilbert. Director Henry Koster happened to see “Ten Commandments” recently at a private showing, and was struck with the beauty of Miss Joy. He at once set about persuading her to make a comeback. Miss Joy, after her first few days before the cameras, said that making pictures today seemed much more fun than when she was a star.
