JOHNSONVILLE SALE GOOD QUALITY SHEEP IN DEMAND. SPRING LAMB PRICES FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A large yarding of cattle and an average yarding of sheep were offered by Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., and Abraham and Williams, Ltd., at the sale conducted in Johnsonville yesterday. The bullocks comprised chiefly me-dium-weight cattle, with a few pens of prime heavyweight bullocks. Extra prime heavyweight bullocks met with good competition, prices showing no alteration. Plain and unfinished cattle were easier by 10s a head. No cows and heifers were forward. A good sale resulted for runners and vealers, prices being firm on those ruling up country.

Only a few pens of extra heavy-

weight wethers were yarded, the balance of the yarding comprising mostly unfinished sheep. Good quality sheep were sought, prices being firm on last week's. Plain wethers were not wanted. The yarding of ewes was of mixed quality, only a few pens of heavy sheep coming forward. These met with fervent competition, with prices firmer by fid to Is a head. Prime lightweight ewes met with no alteration, and unfinished were slightly easier. Hoggets met with a good sale at late rates. Prices for spring lambs were firm on last week’s. Prices are: — Cattle: Prime extra heavy bullocks, £l7 to £l6 2s; prime heavy £l5 17s 6d to £l5; heavy, £l4 17s 6d to £l4; light and unfinished, £l3 10s to £l2 12s 6d; cows, ex dairy, heavy, £9 5s to £5 10s; light, £4 10s to £3; runners and vealers, extra heavy, £5 8s 6d to £3 12s fid; light, £3 to £2. Sheep: Prime extra heavy wethers, woolly, 30s 6d to 275; shorn, 26s 6d to 245; prime heavy, 26s to 25s fid; medium, 24s 3d to 23s 2d; prime extra heavy ewes, woolly, 27s 6d to 255; prime heavy, 24s 9d to 23s 6d; medium, 22s 8d to 20s; heavy and shorn, 19s to 17s; hoggets, 26s lOd to 255; hoggets, 24s 3d to 20s; heavy spring lambs, 26s to 245; medium, 23s 6d to 235; light, 22s 6d to 20s.

PRICES EASIER AT ADDINGTON SALE. CHRISTCHURCH. October 18. At the Addington stock sale today there was an easing in the high prices ruling lately. For store sheep the improved tone of last week was maintained and better prices were realised for hoggets and ewes and lambs. Ewes and lambs sold at Ils to 16s sd; ewe hoggets. 23s Cd to 29s 6d; two, four, six and eight-tooth ewes, 15s 3d. With a bigger entry good fat lambs were back Id a lb to between lOd and lid. Heavy fat ewes and lighter wethers were Is to Is 6d a head easier. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 49s Id; prime heavy, 40s to 445; prime medium, 34s to 395; light, to 28s; extra prime heavy ewes, to 46s Id; prime heavy, 34s to 37s 6d; prime medium, 30s to 335; light, to 225. In the fat cattle there was a decline for most beef ranging from 20s to 30s a head. Good serviceable beef sold at 45s to 47s 6d a hundred pounds. Extra prime heavy steers made to £2l 17s 6d; prime heavy, £l7s to £lBs 15s; prime medium, £l5 10s to £l7; light, to £ll 10s; extra prime heifers, to £lB 12s 6d; prime, £l2 to £l4 10s; medium, £lO to £ll ss; light, to £9 15s; extra prime cows, to £lB 2s 6d; prime, £lO 10s to £l2 10s; medium, £9 5s to £lO ss; light, to £9. There was a decided increase in the porker pig entry, and though values were scarcely up to those of last week the sale was excellent. Choppers were in good suppy and prices were a shade better. For a medium entry of baconers values were scarcely maintained at the level of last week. Choppers sold at £2 13s 6d to £6 18s 6d; porkers, £2 7s 6d to £3 5s 6d (average price a lb, 71d to 8?d); baconers, £3 6s 6d to £5 9s 6d (average price a lb, 6sd to 7?d). MASTERTON SALE LATE RATES MAINTAINED. The Associated Auctioneers report on the weekly sale held yesterday as follows: —A small yarding of sheep and cattle came forward and met with good competition from an average attendance of buyers. Prices for fat and store sheep were fully maintained on late rates, and a good clearance was affected under the hammer. The following prices will indicate values: — woolly fat ewes, 21s 9d, 22s 6d up to 23s 9d; woolly fat wethers. 275; woolly fat hoggets, 21s 6d to 235; woolly prime b.f.’s 24s lOd; shorn w. hoggets, 14s, 15s 6d to 17s; fat down ewes, 245. Store sheep—Woolly, aged ewes, with 100 per cent good lambs at foot, all counted, 14s Bd, 15s to 15s 6d; woolly ewe hoggets, 25s 6d to 27s 6d; woolly ' ewe hoggets, 16s lOd to 18s; S.D. ewes with lambs at foot, 15s, all counted. ' Pigs:—Weaners, up to 245. Cattle:—2 year Holstein bull, £5 10s; three 15 months Jersey Bull, £4; fwd. cow, £3. Horses: —Two good hill mares, £7.
