The growth of amateur operatics in New Zealand, and the immense value of the societies in fostering talent and furthering the interests of music, was outlined to the Blenheim Rotary Club in an address by Mrs Tabor Gregory, formerly of Hamilton, who is engaged in producing the Blenheim Operatic Society’s 21st production, “Rio Rita." Mrs Tabor Gregory said that many a member of an operatic society had gone on and made a success on the stage or radio, but if it had not been for the start given by the amateur society their particular, talent would never have been discovered. Two prominent principals of the Hamilton Society were doing well in London.
