“MORE THAN A SECRETARY.” Columbia’s gayest comedy, “More Than a Secretary,” will be shown tonight at the Cosy Theatre. When Carol Baldwin (Jean Arthur) and Helen Davis (Ruth Donnelly), prim proprietors of a secretarial school, dismiss an attractive, but careless pupil, Maizie (Dorothea Kent), the latter gives them a bit of advice on “getting their men.” Reluctantly, the teachers agree that perhaps Maizie is right after all. In trying to take care of the interests of one of their best clients, the Crosby Publishing Co., Carol is forced to take a job as secretary to the handsome Health Magazine editor, Fred Gilbert (George Brent), who practices what he preaches. One day, Carol flares up and tells her boss that what he —and the magazine—need are humanising; that they are both dead. While exercising in the rain Fred catches cold and is sent to bed by his trainer. Carol steps into the editorial breach and changes drastically the magazine’s make-up. Fred is furious and fires Carol, though the sales volume doubles on that issue. There is an interesting conclusion.

A throbbing action tale is unfolded in Columbia’s vivid production, “Freedom For Sale,” the associate feature. Featured in the cast are Paul Kelly, Rosalind Keith, Leona Maricle, Thurston Hall and Gene Morgan. It tells the pulse-pounding story of a desperate detective who cracks down on the paroled pirates.
