THE AUSTRALIAN JOURNAL
REVIEW OF THE OCTOBER ISSUE. Considering the great part railways have played in the development of ; Australia, it is remarkable that so few writers have used them as a background for their stories. This is not the case in America, where railroading has been made the basis of many a fine adventure tale. However, at least one Australian has found that there is plenty of romance and excitement in our own railway system, and is writing some excellent yarns round the subject. This is Jackson Harris, a New South Wales railway officer, whose story, Double Hazard, is one of the features of The Australian Journal for October. Among the other writers in this excellent issue are William Hatfield, with an interesting story about the aboriginals of the North; Beaumont Wareham, who writes of New Guinea, and Rex Grayson, with a comedy-drama of the old bushranging days. Taken all round, the October Journal is right up to its own high standard both in contents and appearance.
