STOCK MARKET

MASTERTON CATTLE FAIR. KEEN COMPETITION YESTERDAY. The Associated Auctioneers report on their second spring cattle fair held yesterday as follows: A full yarding of all classes of station cattle came forward and attracted a large and representative attendance of buyers, Manawatu being well represented and large numbers of cattle fell to the bid of buyers from that district. A feature of the sale was the number of bullocks and grown steers yarded, and competition for any of these in forward condition was keen, but any in lower order were harder of sale. A pen of forward conditioned Syr P.A. steers offered on account 'Mrs A. Hoskings topped the offering at £lO 7s. while other good forward conditioned lines on account of Epairama Station made £9. and on account F. Tildesley £9, and also an attractive pen of P.A.-Hereford cross steers on account R. Perry £9. a similar line on account Mr N. R. Wyeth also falling to the bid of £9. There was a large yarding of 2yr steers and again the well grown, good conditioned cattle were in demand while the more backward did not meet such a keen sale but made values on a par with our last sale. The top price for 2yr-olds was obtain with a nicely bred pen of P.A.’s at £7 12s, while another attractive line offered on account L. Meredith fell to the bid of £7 6s. The yearling steers, with the exception of two or three top pens met a very similar market to our last sale. The top pens yarded were of much better quality and size and made prices ranging from £5 to £5 Ils. These prices were obtained for an attractive line on account R. Bayliss at £5 Ils; account M. Stone-Wigg £5 ss, and account G. Hargraves £5. Female cattle were again in demand. 2 and 3yr heifers and P.A. cows showing quality made good values and sold well up to late sale reports. In this section the annual draft of P.A. heifers on account Epairama Station after spirited competition fell to the bid of £5 19s. The fat cattle yarded were not particularly good and could not be compared with those yarded at last fair and prices in sympathy were shown.
