GREYTOWN COUNCIL MEETS EXCELLENT PERCENTAGE OF RATES COLLECTED. DONATION TO CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held last night. Those present were the Mayor (Mr R. W. Horton)) and Councillors W. A. Tate, G. F. Edge. H. Farley. F. Wood, T. Blissitt, H. J. Nightingale and E. Balfour. The Town Clerk, Mr J. Kiernan, reported that the current year’s rates collected ip to October 11, amounted to £3,036 18s 2d. The total rate levied for the year was £4,333 4s lOd. The rates paid, therefore, amounted to 70.08 per cent of the rate struck. The percentage of rates collected for the same period last year was 69.15 per cent. Arrears of rates so far this year amounted to £l5B Is 9d. compared with £363 12s lOd last year. “The position is entirely satisfactory although the rates outstanding are more than last year.” said the Mayor. “This is accounted for by a higher rate being struck this year and less arrears having so far been collected.” A donation of 25 guineas was received from the Wairarapa Workingmen's Club towards the cost of the Greytown Centennial Memorial Rest Room. It was decided to thank the club for its generous donation.
