Beaulivre started first favourite on both, machines and his victory was a stylish one. Although awkwardly placed as they turned for home Beaulivre soon overcame the difficulty and over the last furlong there was no doubt as to his supremacy. The Mitchelson Cup resulted in a win for the sixth and seventh choice Royevrus, with Birthday Boy second. The last three events of the day, the two divisions in the Gordon Handicap and the Flying Handicap, were all won by rank outsiders who returned their supporters a good price.
