TWENTY=FIRST BIRTHDAY

ENJOYABLE CLAREVILLE PARTY. MISS J. M. EDGE HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A very enjoyable party was held by Mr and Mrs Geo Edge, of South Carterton, at the Clareville Hall on Saturday night to celebrate the coming of age of their eldest daughter, Joyce Mary. Dancing took up the best part of the evening, during which two pleasing items, a much appreciated song and a tap dance were given by Miss Joyce Patterson. About 140 guests sat down to a sumptuous supper. Mr Dan Jensen proposed the health of Miss Edge. He referred to her many excellent personal qualities, and wished her every success in her future life. He called upon Miss Edge’s father to say a few words which he did in a happy way, and before concluding handed his daughter the key and freedom of the house, (cheers). A lovely birthday cake the work of a master baker was decorated with 21 miniature candles, which were lit and extinguished by the guest of the evening, after which she cut the cake, a piece being handed to those present.

Miss Edge was asked by Mr Jensen to open the many splendid gift parcels which she did amid applause. She gracefully thanked everyone for their kindness. Dancing was continued till midnight, Mr Jensen acting as M.C.
