ALARM IN BERLIN
NAZI PLANE CAUSES RAID SCARE MACHINE SHOT DOWN. HEAVY EXPLOSIONS REPORTED. A Daventry report states that a Berlin air raid scare on Saturday night arose from a German plane flying over the city and being shot down by antiaircraft fire. Earlier statements issued by the German authorities had suggested that the firing was probably practice, and that the guns were firing at a high-flying enemy reconnaissance machine. It was stated in London that the Royal Air Force was not concerned in a raid on Berlin at that time. It is now admitted that a German machine entered the forbidden zone and was shot down, the pilot escaping by parachute. Reports from neutral countries state that heavy explosions also occurred, and an American report refers to an explosion in the neighbourhood of munition works north-west of Berlin.
