WRESTLING
CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE, RETAINED BY McCREADY. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON. This Day. British Empire champion. Earl McCready, Canada, retained his title in a professional heavyweight wrestling match’with Lofty Blomfield in the Wellington Town Hall on Saturday night. The challengers, however, held him to a draw, neither managing to take a fall. The bout was comparatively placid; it afforded an exhibition of clean, orthodox matcraft rarely interrupted by rough play or spectacular incidents. Infringements were unusually rare, and the referee, Mr A. Jenkins, was seldom called upon to intervene. The Town Hall was packed, with many standing. The crowd, which included many uniformed men, was in exuberant spirits, and gave the protagonists a rousing ovation. McCready’s weight was announced as 17st, Blomfield’s as 16st 81b. After a preliminary huddle while the referee told them the “don’ts” battle was joined.
