October 13. “The Times” Paris correspondent states that a French airman, diving in succession on three Messerschmidts which were about to land at an aerodrome crashed them all. A reconnaissance machine in charge of a pilot and observer encountered three enemy planes, which killed the pilot and twice wounded the observer, who. before he died, managed to land behind the French lines with his photographs. The Germans attacked and set fire to a third reconnaissance machine and killed the observer as he parachuted to earth. The pilot landed the machine in his own lines and saved photographs, despite severe burns. FOG AND RAIN ACTIVITIES MUCH REDUCED. UNSUCCESSFUL GERMAN EFFORTS. (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) PARIS, October 13. Fog and rain have superseded sunny weather on the West Front, reducing the former slight activity to a minimum and confining German operations to resultless patrols. A German communique states that activity is confined to the artillery and local patrols. The French blew up bridges at Wintersdorf, Breisach and Neuenburg. GERMANS MASSING ALLIES READY FOR ANY EVENTUALITY. WAR SECRETARY'S CONFIDENCE. {Received This Day, 11.35 a.m.) t LONDON, October 13. The Secretary for War (Mr HoreBelisha) stated that Germany was massing troops on the Western Front, but added that we were ready and confident in face of any eventuality. The condition of the British- Expeditionary Force was magnificent.
