UNITED OPINION
A subsequent debate in the House of Commons, and also in the House of Lords, following upon a similar statement by Viscount Halifax, showed not only a close approximation in the attitude of the party leaders, but was without divergence to quite an unusual degree in the views of individual speakers. In so far as any qualification appeared in the approval given to Mr Chamberlain’s statement, it took the form or urging a more explicit and detailed enunciation of the principles for wljich the Allies are fighting and of the contribution Britain herself would be willing to make, in common with other nations, for their realisation. The Leader of the Labour Party, Mr C. R. Attlee, declared that the Premier's statement would be endorsed by the British people and approved by the. peoples of other countries. . Labour adhered to the party’s declared, policy of disarmament and collective security.
