AIR TRAINING

COSTS OF THE EMPIRE SCHEME ONE-EIGHTH APPORTIONED TO NEW ZEALAND. ENORMOUS EXPANSION ASSURED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. OTTAWA. October 11. It is authoritatively stated that the cost of the Empire air training' scheme, running into “hundreds of millions of dollars'’ will be borne in the following' proportions: United Kingdom. 50 per cent: Canada, 25 per cent ; Australia and Now Zealand. 121 per cent each. It is expected that the trainees will remain on the payrolls of the parent Governments. When the scheme is in full operation planes will be manufactured in Canada, but till then, provided the arms embargo is repealed, heavy purchases of trainers and fighters will be made from the United States. The plan offers an inducement for United States manufacturers.to open Canadian factories. It is considered here that London estimates that 25,000 planes will be involved are large and probably based on a long-term view.
