NASTURTIUMS

HOW TO MAKE THEM BLOOM FREELY. Many growers have complained that the beautiful Golden Gleam nasturtium makes a large amount of foliage but bears comparatively few flowers. This is because the roots are left free to rarhble all over the border in search of food. Nasturtiums do best in a “hungry” soil. The rampant growth can be kept in check, and plenty of bloom obtained, if j the seeds are sown separately in three- > inch pots. Merely press the seeds into the surface of the soil and, imme-1 diately after sowing, bury the pots in the border when you wish the plants + o bloom. Place about 12in apart with the rims one inch below the surface. If this method is adopted there is no need to worry about the plants suffering from lack of water later on. Nasturtiums revel in dry ground and sufficient moisture will percolate through the sides of the pots.
