Two blackfish, a species of small whale, came ashore recently at Ringa Ringa beach, Stewart Island, wheie they dashed themselves to death on the rocks in their frenzy to escape. At the same time the remaindei of the school, which seemed^. to number considerably more th~" , i hundred, cruised agitatedly jut shore. A rifle shot soon scared ....m away, as Stewart Island did not want a repetition of last year’s visitation, when about 80 stranded themselves and created a nuisance.
